Attingham Park will introduce temporary pre-booking for Grounds Only visits from Saturday 20 December to Thursday 1 January. The change follows persistent wet weather that has left the grass overflow car park unusable for the rest of the Christmas season.
The estate normally opens the overflow during the busiest weeks of the year, but recent conditions have left the ground too soft to use safely. To make sure everyone who books can park, the team will extend the existing Mansion pre-booking system to include Grounds Only visits after 9.30am.
Mark Agnew, General Manager at Attingham Park, said:
“You come to Attingham to relax, not to queue for parking. The rain has left us without the overflow car park we rely on at Christmas, so we are taking a simple step that protects your visit. By asking Grounds Only visitors to book, we can manage numbers and keep the experience running smoothly.”
Anyone with a Christmas in the Mansion ticket already has access to the grounds and does not need an additional booking. Grounds Only visitors should book through the Attingham Park website. Tickets for 20 to 28 December go live on 11 December. Tickets for 29 December to 1 January go live on 18 December. Visitors can also book by phone on 0344 249 1895.
The team recognises that some people enjoy visiting spontaneously, but the temporary change will prevent long queues and avoid turning people away at peak times. From 2 January, Attingham will return to a free-flow approach, with parking on a first come, first served basis once the Mansion closes for winter.
