About
Get closer to the metal that makes our world at the National Trust’s Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron.
Understand the origin of the revolution that launched mass production, changing lives around the world forever. Be inspired by the vision and determination of Abraham Darby I and the extraordinary breadth of objects made from one of the earth’s most abundant elements.
Meet the Darbys, each with their own story to tell and find out more about the Ironfounders.
See intricate examples of Coalbrookdale ironwork including pieces from the legendary great exhibition of 1851, stunning statues, exquisite art castings and interactive exhibits.
Walk across the green stopping to look at the striking Boy & Swan Fountain before casting your eyes on the majestic triangle building which houses the original furnace where Abraham Darby I perfected the world-changing iron smelting technique – the site where iron changed our lives forever. The Old Furnace is currently undergoing conservation repairs which should be completed this month.
Visits to Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron are free-flow and do not need to be pre-booked.
