Discover the joy of pottery in the heart of Shropshire with Lucy Young Ceramics, based at the historic Maws Craft Centre in Ironbridge. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to reconnect with clay, Lucy’s workshops offer a warm, welcoming space to explore your creativity.
Raised in the Forest of Dean, Lucy grew up surrounded by pottery. Her father, Alistair Young, is a respected potter, and after studying Fine Art at Winchester School of Art and working as a teacher, Lucy retrained at Whichford Pottery in the Cotswolds. She now runs her own studio, producing hand-thrown domestic ware, bespoke branded ceramics, and unique individual pieces.
Her studio is located in a beautifully restored Victorian tile factory, surrounded by artisan shops and scenic walks. It’s the perfect place to slow down, get creative, and make something with your hands.
Pottery Throwing Workshops
Lucy’s 2.5-hour introductory throwing sessions are ideal for individuals or small groups. You’ll begin with a demonstration on preparing clay and using the potter’s wheel, followed by hands-on time to create your own pots using brand-new, state-of-the-art wheels.
What’s included: Expert guidance from Lucy throughout the session, use of professional equipment and materials, the chance to make and keep your favourite pot. a choice of three glaze colours and twice-fired in an electric kiln to stoneware temperature (1220°C).
Your finished pot will be ready for collection or delivery in 5–6 weeks. These sessions are perfect for anyone looking to try something new, enjoy a mindful activity, or create a handmade keepsake.

These 2.5-hour events include a full demonstration, individual throwing time, and the opportunity for each guest to make and keep a pot. Road Directions
The studio is located at Maws Craft Centre, once the home to Maws Tile Works. It is nestled in the village of Jackfield, within the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. Surrounded by scenic countryside and artisan studios, it’s just a short drive from Ironbridge and easily accessible from Telford and Bridgnorth.

How to Find Us – Lucy Young Ceramics
Lucy Young Ceramics is located at Unit D2, Maws Craft Centre, in the village of Jackfield, just outside Ironbridge, Shropshire.
From Ironbridge (approx. 1.5 miles):
Head southeast on the B4373 towards Broseley. Cross the Free Bridge over the River Severn. Turn left onto Ferry Road, following signs for Jackfield. Continue for about half a mile – the entrance to Maws Craft Centre will be on your right. From Telford (approx. 7 miles):
Take the A442 southbound towards Bridgnorth. Exit at the Ironbridge Gorge junction and follow signs for Ironbridge. Continue through Madeley and follow signs to Jackfield. Turn onto Ferry Road and look for the Maws Craft Centre entrance on your left. Once inside the Maws Craft Centre, Lucy Young Ceramics is located in Unit D2, just off the central courtyard.
Free parking is available on site.
Active Transport, the centre is also accessible via local walking and cycling routes, including the Severn Valley Way and National Cycle Route 45.
