This May half term, families are invited to step back in time during World War Two Week at the RAF Museum Midlands, running from 24 May to 1 June. The event is packed with immersive experiences, hands-on workshops, and creative wartime crafts, offering a fun-filled family day out while learning about one of the most extraordinary chapters in British history.
Event highlights:
- Raid the Shelter Experience: Visitors can explore a real Anderson Shelter, build a paper model version to take home, dress up in period clothing, and take part in a simulated air raid with a dramatic and authentic soundscape.
- Lego Racers Activity: Children can build World War Two-inspired vehicles and race them down a track using the power of balloons.
- Campaign Poster Art Activity: Budding artists can design their own posters inspired by vintage propaganda art.
- Dress-Up Drill Sergeant Selfie Station: Families can strike a pose wearing authentic wartime attire.
- Audio Stories: Listen to charming tales told by Antis the Dog and Percy the Penguin, accessible via QR codes throughout the Museum.
- Spy-Hunter Trail: Young code-breakers can track down stolen aircraft plans hidden in the Museum and earn a mission badge.
- Miniature Aircraft and Vehicle Models: Marvel at the engineering wonders of the Second World War showcased by the Aero Space and Vehicle Club Wombourne IPMS.
- Iconic Aircraft: Explore the Museum's collection, including the world’s oldest Spitfire.
- Pilot Experience: Climb into an exact replica Spitfire cockpit section or use VR goggles to pilot a real Spitfire in a thrilling virtual reality experience.
With free entry to the Museum and small charges up to £5 for selected activities, this event promises a brilliant and budget-friendly day out for all ages.
