At Visit Telford, we’re committed to making sure our destination is inclusive, welcoming, and accessible to everyone.
We’re working alongside VisitEngland, Access and Inclusion UK, and the Telford and Shropshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) team to improve the accessibility information we provide to both visitors and tourism partners. This means updating how we share the features, facilities and services you offer helping visitors with access needs plan their trip to Telford with confidence.
What do we mean by accessibility?
Accessibility is about more than just physical spaces. It’s about breaking down barriers physical, digital, sensory or attitudinal, to create inclusive experiences for all. It’s about enabling everyone, especially those with additional access requirements, to enjoy everything Telford has to offer with autonomy, dignity and ease.
This work forms part of a wider approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) ensuring that every visitor feels welcome, every business values difference, and every experience is as barrier-free as possible.
Why accessibility matters
> Improves customer service and enhances the visitor experience
> Opens your business up to the £15.3 billion UK accessible tourism market
> Helps meet the needs of an ageing population
> Supports multi-generational travel (including ‘3G’ family holidays)
> One person with access needs can influence the decisions of an entire travel group
> Contributes to more sustainable and responsible tourism
> Attracts a wider audience both locally and nationally
> Builds resilience in times of crisis (as shown during the COVID-19 pandemic)
> Supports employment opportunities for disabled people
> Boosts your business reputation and brand perception
> Increases chances of repeat visits and loyal advocacy
We’re asking all Visit Telford partners to complete a short Accessibility Features Form, which will only take around 3–5 minutes to complete.
This form helps us understand and promote what accessibility features you currently offer from step-free access to sensory-friendly sessions, hearing loops to accessible toilets.
If you do not complete the form by this date, your listing will not display any accessibility features and may not be included in accessibility-focused searches or promotional content.
Tips for completing the form
> Be accurate and honest – only tick features you currently offer.
> Use the guidance – read the notes next to each question for clarity.~
> Keep listings updated – review your listing at least once a year or whenever you make changes.
> Multiple listings? – You’ll need to complete a form for each listing.
> You MUST add your url from Visit Telford, and NOT your own url/web address e.g https://www.visittelford.co.uk/things-to-do/blists-hill-victorian-town-p1420311 - you can simply copy and paste from the url bar at the top of the page onto the form.
Didn’t receive the form? – Email us at helo@visittelford.co.uk and we’ll send it over.
Please note: Some features are considered legal requirements (such as welcoming assistance dogs and providing allergen information) and are not included in the form — these should be standard across all venues.
Share your inclusive stories and images
Do you have photos showing guests with diverse access needs enjoying your space, attraction, accommodation, or experience? We’d love to see them.
Inclusive imagery helps us better showcase Telford to a wider audience, and may be used on our website, social media, visitor guides, press articles and more.
Updating your description
In addition to the form, you’re welcome to email us with any additional accessibility details to include in your main listing description, whether that’s information on accessible parking, guided support, or quiet areas.
Adding this detail helps with search engine visibility and enables us to better promote your business through themed features, blogs, and campaigns.
