From jousting knights to glowing balloons, Telford has enjoyed a summer packed with free events that brought thousands of people together across the Borough.
It all started in April with Spring Into St. George’s Day, where the Knights of Nottingham wowed the crowds with thrilling jousting displays and a full day of free family fun. Telford Walk Week followed, offering over 40 walks and activities designed to get more people exploring the great outdoors.
June’s Armed Forces Fun Day drew in 4,000 visitors, with a crowd-pleasing helicopter fly-in and plenty of entertainment for all ages. Then in July, the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 semi-final and final matches were screened live in Telford Town Park, giving families and friends a chance to cheer on the Lionesses together in a buzzing atmosphere.
The summer holidays ended on a high with the Balloon Fiesta, which lit up the skies with four balloon launches, a sell-out Night Glow event, and entertainment for all ages. Over 50,000 visitors joined the fun across the weekend.
This year also marked the 80th anniversaries of VE and VJ Day. Communities across Telford came together to share stories and memories, supported by the council’s VE Day 80th Grant Funding project. Civic events and flag-raisings were held alongside locally organised commemorations.
With nine major events and over 60,000 visitors in just five months, there’s plenty more to look forward to. The Telford Theatre on Tour programme is now underway, bringing drama, music and family entertainment to venues across the borough while the Oakengates theatre undergoes refurbishment.
