Weston Park hosts opening stage of Hills Ford Rally

One of the county’s newest sporting events that is set to attract fans from across the region will roar into Weston Park in September.

The estate on the Shropshire and Staffordshire border will play host to the UK’s best rally drivers in the Hill Ford Stages Rally on September 19.

Following a ceremonial start in Shrewsbury, around 150 rally crews, including drivers from around the country, will arrive to contest four stages within the estate grounds, including the Weston Park Water Splash.

Rally enthusiasts are expected to flock in their numbers as a number of titles are up for grabs, including the Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship.

As well as the world class racing on offer, there will be lots more for fans to enjoy with the Rally Festival forming the centrepiece of the opening day.

PATHWAYS – Discover Motorsport will be on hand to introduce visitors to career opportunities in motorsport with support from Harper Adams University, Shrewsbury Colleges Group and industry partners.

Alongside this will be the DriveWise Zone demonstrating how motorsport can inspire safer driving.

Visitors will also have a chance to get involved with future rally events, with local businesses, independent traders, charities and suppliers all attending the event.

Rebecca Alexander, Head of Estate Operations at Weston Park, said: “This event will bring together top-level motorsport, family entertainment, education and local businesses and we’re really looking forward to it. It should be a top-class day out for all.”

Event organisers still have trade stand pitches available in exchange for a nominal contribution to their marshal and official ‘thank-you’ initiative.

Dan Lister, Clerk of the Course, said: “Without our marshals and officials there simply wouldn't be a rally. They are the first to arrive, the last to leave, and they give up their weekends to help deliver a safe, enjoyable event for everyone. 

"If we can recognise that commitment while inviting local businesses to become part of our first Rally Festival at Weston Park, then that's something we're incredibly proud to achieve.

“This event has always been about bringing people together, and that's exactly what we're trying to do. We hope businesses, families and motorsport fans will join us in helping create something that can grow into one of Shropshire's great annual events."

Tickets for the vent are still available online for £10 at weston-park.com or on the gate on the day at £15.
