It’s a great opportunity to get outside and explore the stunning areas in and around the gorge.

Family Walk- Naturally Art @ Woodside Orchard with Severn Gorge Countryside Trust

Head out with Severn Gorge Countryside Trust to see what you can discover and create amongst the fruit trees in the Woodside Community Orchard. We will get crafty using different natural materials that we find!

Ironbridge Walking Group Walk 1: Much Wenlock along the River, returing via the Shropshire Way

Meeting point: Ironbridge Toll House, TF8 7JP  
Time: 9.30am
Distance: 12.5 miles   
Ability: Moderate 4    
Duration: 6-7 hours

From the Toll House the walking group will follow the river to Buildwas on the Severn Way, which we continue to follow towards Sheinton. We continue towards Bannister’s Coppice, past Sheinwood Manor before climbing up to Homer offering splendid, far-reaching views. We then drop into Much Wenlock where we will have a break to explore this lovely old town, before returning to Ironbridge on the Shropshire Way. Field paths, river paths, woodland and lanes, stiles and may be muddy!

Ironbridge Walking Group Walk 2: The Madeley Trail

Meeting point: MAWS Craft Centre, TF8 7LS  
Time: 10am
Distance: 6.5 miles     
Ability: Moderate 3    
Duration: 3-4 hours

This walk leaves Jackfield by crossing the Memorial bridge to the china museum then climbs to the top of the Hay Incline plane and Great Hay Farmhouse, with its great views, through Hay Wood. We follow woodland to Madeley where we discover St Michael’s church and some of the historic buildings in the High Street before walking on towards the medieval Madeley Court. We circle back into Madeley, exploring other areas of interest, before returning to Jackfield. Field paths, woodland, cycleways, lanes and small sections of road. Steps, no stiles but sections can be muddy!

Ironbridge Walking Group Walk 3: Right Round the Wrekin!

Meeting point: Dale End Car Park, TF8 7NJ
Time: 9.30am
Distance: 12.5 miles   
Ability: Moderate 4    
Duration: 6-7 hours

Walk right round the Wrekin but not up it! From Dale End the walking group will follow an old tram way towards Little Wenlock, joining the Shropshire Way to skirt the village. We walk around the Wrekin following the T50 route to reach the Halfway House then drop down through Burnt Cottage to follow round its other flank. We pass the old rifle range to continue our circuit of the Wrekin, before returning to Ironbridge via Buildwas and the river. Field paths, river paths, woodland, gravel tracks and lanes. Stiles, no steps but sections can be muddy!

Ironbridge Walking Group Walk 4: Broseley and back

Meeting point: Ironbridge Toll House, TF8 7JP

A walk to the lovely town of Broseley

Taking a woodland path the walking group will climb out of the gorge to reach the jitties of Broseley wood. After exploring several of these the group will loop back into town, following the High Street before dropping towards Jackfield through woodland. Returning to Ironbridge via the old railway. Field paths, woodland, gravel tracks and quiet roads. Flight of steps up, no stiles but sections can be muddy!

Ironbridge Walking Group Walk 5: Cinderloo

Meeting point: Horsehay Golf Club, TF4 3BT

Time: 9.30am
Distance: 12.5 miles   
Ability: Moderate 3    
Duration: 6-7 hours                                        

Discover some of the sites of the Cinderloo uprising.

Cinderloo was an industrial dispute that took place in the Telford area in 1821. Workers marched from site to site, gaining support for their cause, until there was a final stand-off with the Shropshire Yeomanry. We head across Horsehay and Lawley Common to Malinslee and Old Park, the site of the final standoff. We continue on to Snedshill, Priorslee and down through the town park towards Little Dawley, using paths those workers may well have trodden, before returning to Horsehay. Field paths, gravel, cycleways, quiet roads, woodland. No stiles or steps but sections may be muddy!

Ironbridge Walking Group Walk 6: The Daily Toil
Meeting point: Coalbrookdale Community centre, TF8 7DX

Time: 10am
Distance: 6.5 miles     
Ability: Moderate 3    
Duration: 3-4 hours    

Visit some of the places in the gorge which forged the modern world.

We leave Coalbrookdale for Ironbridge, looking for signs of the industries that once thrived here. We cross the river and follow the old railway to Jackfield and the Memorial bridge, where we re-cross and return towards Ironbridge through Lloyd’s Coppice. As we return to Ironbridge we leave the river and climb up through the town before dropping back down into Coalbrookdale via part of the Sabbath Walks. Quiet roads, gravel tracks, woodland, field paths. Steps, no stiles, some sections may be muddy!

Ironbridge Rotary Dog Show
Location: Dale End Park, Ironbridge, TF8 7EG

The Rotary Club of Ironbridge will be hosting their family fun dag show as part of this year’s Ironbridge Festival.  There’s lots of categories for your furry friend to enter, you never know you may have a winner. Refreshments will be available.

1:20pm -  Best Veteran dog/bitch  7+
1:30pm  - Best Puppy under 12 months

3:10pm -  Best 6 Legs—Dog Plus Owner
3:20pm -  Dog the Judge would like to take home
3:30pm -  Grand Final—All First Place Rosette Winners

Ironbridge Walking Group Walk 7: Grindleforge and Kemberton Mill

Meeting point: Coalport YHA, TF8, 7HT
Time: 9.30am

The classic route to lovely Grindleforge!

Leaving Coalport the walking group will climb out across Great Hay Golf Course, taking field paths to Brockton and Kemberton, before following the River Worfe to Grindleforge and on to Ryton. We return via lanes and fields to Sutton Maddock. From here we drop back to Coalport through Sutton Woods. Field paths, lanes, woodland. Stiles, steps downwards and some sections may be muddy!

Ironbridge Walking Group Walk 8: Where It Began
Meeting point: Coalbrookdale Community Centre, TF8 7DX

A walk to Dawley – birthplace of a new town.

Telford started life as Dawley New Town. This walk explores one of the less visited original towns of the area and the regeneration it inspired. From Coalbrookdale, we follow the line of the railway to reach Dawley Pools and Little Dawley. We then loop up through Langleyfield before reaching the High Street which we follow to reach Dawley town park. We head towards Pool Hill, Doseley and Little Dawley, before dropping back to Coalbrookdale through Lightmoor.  Gravel paths, woodland, quiet roads, cycleways, field paths. Stiles, steps downwards and some sections may be muddy!

Flora and Fauna Walk 10am - 1pm 

Location: The Green Wood Centre 6 Station Road Coalbrookdale TF8 7DR

Starting from the Greenwood Centre in Ironbridge this walk will take in some of the woodlands and meadows leading to Lydebrook Dingle, discovering more about different flora and fauna along the way. Walk leader Bob Thomas has many years of experience and a wealth of knowledge about not only the wild plants but also the history of this fascinating area.
