Pottery Wheel-Throwing with Lucy Young Ceramics

About

Step into the world of clay and creativity with a hands-on pottery taster session led by the super talented and experienced ceramicist Lucy Young. Nestled in the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – this immersive experience is perfect for absolute beginners or anyone looking to reconnect with the joy of making.

Under Lucy’s expert guidance, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing, from preparing your clay to safely operating one of the studio’s brand-new, state-of-the-art pottery wheels. After a live demonstration, you’ll have the rest of the session to create your own unique pots, with Lucy on hand to support and inspire.

What’s Included:

  • A 1.5-hour guided throwing session with Lucy Young
  • Use of professional-grade pottery wheels and tools
  • Choose your favourite pot to keep
  • Select from three beautiful glaze colours
  • Twice-fired in an electric kiln to stoneware temperature (1220°C)
  • Collection or delivery of your finished piece (ready in 5–6 weeks)

Why You’ll Love It:

  • Expert Instruction: Learn from Lucy Young, a skilled potter with a rich family heritage in ceramics and training from Whichford Pottery.
  • Inspiring Location: Set in a beautifully restored Victorian tile factory surrounded by artisan shops, cafés, and scenic riverside walks.
  • Creative Escape: A perfect way to slow down, get messy, and make something meaningful with your hands.

Good to Know:

  • Pottery is messy – wear clothes you don’t mind getting clay on (it washes out easily!)
  • Tie back long hair and remove rings, watches, and bracelets
  • Short nails are recommended for the best experience
