About

Set at a traditional village fête filled with bunting, cakes, giant vegetables and wasps, the story follows two first-aid volunteers preparing their tent for the day ahead. George is a stand-in grandad for Maddy, while Maddy has become a stand-in granddaughter for George. Sharing the space is Lebanese drag queen Eliana Sultana, who has been booked to draw the raffle and is getting ready in the corner.

As the day unfolds, their lives become unexpectedly intertwined, leading to a series of surprising revelations. Why has a drag queen been booked for a village fête? What is Maddy's connection to Eliana's boyfriend? Where has George seen Eliana before? And just how allergic is Eliana to wasps?

Described as a bittersweet and bonkers mix of the epic, the outlandish, the everyday and the downright silly, George and the Drag Queen combines humour, heart and unexpected twists in a uniquely entertaining theatre experience.

This show is part of the national Create Tour Connect project and forms part of Telford Theatre on Tour in partnership with Arts Alive.
